About Me
A teacher Abroad
My name is Jen! Originally from Maine and currently teaching in Quito, Ecuador. I started my teaching career in 2012, and have taught nearly every grade from Kindergarten to 5th. Moving to Colorado in 2016 for a new adventure, I quickly became what Coloradans call a “Weekend Warrior”, traveling each weekend to the mountains to hike or ski.
In 2018, I finally took advantage of having summers off, completing a three week backpacking trip in Europe. This trip initiated my interest in international travel. I wanted to travel more, but traveling on a teacher’s salary can be difficult. That is when I discovered international teaching!
In 2020 (in the midst of the Covid pandemic) I moved to Jakarta, Indonesia to teach 5th grade at an International School. While international borders were closed, I was able to travel domestically, visiting Bali monthly and falling in love with scuba diving in Komodo National Park.
In 2022, I made the move to Quito, Ecuador to teach 3rd grade. In close proximity to the Andes mountains, I am back to hiking high peaks. Living in Ecuador has also afforded me the opportunity to visit the Galapagos Islands!
I don’t have a five year plan and I’m not sure where I will end up next, but I hope you enjoy coming along for the ride!
